Will the border wall be permanent? It would be a bad idea if it were. It will be okay for the time being but if we get a lot more people on the server there will soon be not enough resources and space in the wild. Food for thought...

It's 10,000 block in each direction from spawn, which would be a 20,000 by 20,000 space. That's plenty of space. And, as far as I know, it will be permanent. It will be okay for the time being, and that time will be a long time. As the server grows, more players are to move outward due to the current, close areas being taken already. Those close living players will likely go inactive, which then the Department of Agriculture will clean the area, and then it will be available for new players to take. Same thing would happen to the players living further out in the wilderness. It will be a cycle. However, if this cycle does not continue, and more and more new players become active and habit the wilderness, then perhaps the border will be extended again.

The point is, it's just unneeded to have an infinite amount of land, while even this smaller, yet still large, area will only have a small percentage of land taken by players by the time more land is available.

Yes, lots of block amounts in either direction, but if you've noticed, there is rather large amount of water/ocean biomes. Not much resources there...

This is also true. I suppose they will edit the border if it gets in the way of the server and/or the economies development

    1. It won't be a wall, it will be an actual limit where you can't walk past a certain point, and it is set in the world settings file, and will appear as a transparent red grid once you get close to it.
    2. The size can easily be changed at any time simply by editing the file to expand the area, then restarting the server.
    3. It would probably take several times the current server population to use up even half the resources in the 10,000x10,000 world border
    4. The reasons for making a limit is to reduce lag and keep players from loading in tons of new chunks that aren't necessary (each chunk adds up to the size of the world file, which takes up space that the owner has to pay for). Plus, how many people even have builds 10,000 blocks away from spawn?

There's plenty of ores underneath oceans. Oceans are also one of the best places to get ink sacks from squids. And digging gravel from the ocean floor is the only real way to obtain mass amounts of it. Oceans have plenty of materials.
