What is a Doctor?
As a doctor, your job is to treat patients at the hospital with whatever disease they might have and give them a check-up if they don't know what they have. Patients may come to you because they are diseased. They may also come to you because they’re too hungry, or drunk. It is a doctor’s responsibility to help diagnose/treat them them. You can learn more about diseases here.
Commands
Doctors are entrusted with several commands to be used for convenience in their work.
/doh | Used to access the private Department of Health chat.
/attend | Used to notify other doctors when you’re attending a patient and which patient you’re attending. This should always be the first thing you do when attending a patient. (Bare in mind that the first doctor to attend a patient always gets jurisdiction over that patient.)
/hospitals | Allows you to warp the hospital a patient is at. This command may only be used after you receive a call from a patient and attend them, or when an HS/Health Minister gives you exclusive permission to use it (eg. During training).
/cure | Opens an interactive GUI listing the price and recipe for various remedies
/disease list | Lists all the diseases present on the server. This permission is given to all players.
/disease info (disease name) | Gives info on a specific disease. It provides the cure used, and what causes it. E.g bitterwort cures the plague
Protocols & Procedure
When a patient requires medical attention, the first command you run is /attend to notify other doctors. After that you may warp to the hospital they’re at if necessary. A patient may not always know what’s wrong with them. In this situation, you can ask these questions:
- “What does your /health say?” If their diagnosis reads “none,” proceed to question 2. Otherwise, follow protocol listed below.
- “How hungry are you?” If all the questions previously asked have suggested they’re healthy, the patient may just be hungry. This situation is rather self-explanatory.
- “What is your drunkenness level?" Drunkenness can be checked with /brew info. You can tell the patient to drink milk and eat bread, as we do not cure drunkenness at the hospital.
Next, when a patient has an infectious disease such as the plague, you are required to take them to the back rooms which will be shown to you by an HS on a tour of the hospital.
If there happens to be a 911 call while you are online, do not attend to it, as only paramedics are able to attend 911 calls.
Finally, it’s worth noting how each individual cure is administered:
Leg splints & bandages may be applied by right clicking a patient while holding the remedy in your hand. Leg splints are crafted using 6 sticks. 3 in the left hand column and 3 in the middle column of a 3x3 crafting grid.
Warm Gel may be applied by handing the patient the remedy and telling them to right click it. (The patient must be looking at the sky for the remedy to take effect.)
Potions must be given to the patient for them to drink.
Shears may be used to treat arrow wounds by right clicking the patient while holding the shears.
Policies
Finally, the DoH has a guide dedicated to policies that doctors are required to abide by and may be given strikes for not doing so. It can be found here.
On behalf of the department, I wish you luck on your exam!
