The wilderness is very important for new and old players alike, offering many resources and an affordable space to call home/work in. However, oftentimes players can take advantage of this (griefed buildings, over deforested areas, dug out holes, etc) and in turn make the wilderness a less appealing place to be. Additionally the multitude of abandoned regioned plots can make it difficult for others to find the perfect spot to settle. I have experience working with these issues as well as the other responsibilities of a ranger such as enforcing animal laws and working with the adoption center since I was previously a ranger before I took a break from the server. Working with the DoA made me truly invested in the server since I felt I was making an impact (especially with the warp 2 project), and gave me the opportunity meet many new people.
