National Monuments Act

A
Bill
To

Establish the procedure of dedicating National Monuments in the wilderness

The Parliament of Stratham enacts:

Section 1. Short Title

(1) This Act is the National Monuments Act

Section 2. Commencement

(1) All provision(s) shall come into effect upon passage

Section 3. Purpose and Reasoning

(1) Allowing players to have their builds dedicated will increase the number of ways a player can leave a lasting mark and legacy on the server.

(2) Allowing players to have their builds dedicated will incentivize more players to build simply for the sake of artistic expression in addition to building for the sake of practical use.
  1. More incentive to build will create more demand for building materials
(3) Dedicated monuments will open the doors to greater player exploration and possibilities of tourism on the server.

(4) Some breathtaking builds have been made in the wild over the years, but players have never had a real practical or cost-efficient way of preserving such large scale builds; a problem only exacerbated by the current restrictions on wild region size and quantity.

Section 4. National Monuments

(1) National Monuments shall be government-owned player-built points of interest in the wilderness, similar to historic buildings but outside of the cities.
(2) Players may apply to have their builds dedicated in the wilderness by the DoID.
(3) National Monuments and the land in a 50 block radius of them will be regioned and acquired by the government upon their dedication.
(4) Players may, if they wish, request to dedicate their monument to a player or thing.
(5) National Monuments will have a lectern placed on their premises to provide information about the structure.

Section 5. Restrictions

(1) National Monument applications may not be accepted if the applicant is not the original builder of the monument.
  1. Verifying the original builder may come in several ways, including but not limited to ownership of the land or a large chunk of the land the structure is built on, and/or CoreProtect data showing that the structure was built by the applicant.
    1. In the event that the applicant is already the owner of the land or a chunk of the land that the monument is on, they will be reimbursed the typical /as sell price of that region upon the monument’s dedication
    2. CoreProtect data is preferred, but due to plugin changes over the years, there is no guarantee that adequate CoreProtect data will exist for every structure.
  2. The original builder may give permission to another player to apply on their behalf.
(2) National Monuments must be non-functioning
  1. This means that they must be built with the purpose of artistic/creative intent, rather than with a practical purpose (i.e. wild bases).
  2. Builds such as wild bases may have their functionality removed to have the structure qualify, but active bases and homes may at no point be dedicated as monuments.
(3) Players applying to have their builds dedicated as monuments forfeit their ability to build on, profit from, or claim ownership in any way to the land that the monument is on.
  1. Applicants may continue to make alterations to the monument up to the point that their application for dedication has been accepted.
  2. The DoID may give the original artist of a monument clearance to make alterations after it has already been dedicated.
