Why do you think you deserve this role?
i think i deserve the role of captain because i've had experience in the roles of police cadet, police officer and sergeant, but have also had experience on the other side of the law as a criminal. i've been able to experience a lot while in the department; drug investigations, serial killer chases, and several different changes in management. i have developed good relationships with the members of the department, and have been a trusted member for nine months.
What do you think you can bring to this role?
to this role, i can bring several things, a few examples are: my personality, i feel that i am easy to get along with, and very welcoming to any new members of the department, and i am willing to help any member with whatever they need. another example is my responsibility and willingness to take on any task that comes my way. i enjoy fulfilling tasks that are assigned to me, and love learning about things i'm unsure about or haven't had any experience in. lastly, i can bring my commitment to the department. i have chosen the doj over other departments, as it was the first department i joined, and the department i've worked in the longest.
What would you change about the DoJ?
i think that i would work on implementing some form of schedule for the department. not necessarily something that tells officers what time they have to be online, more of a chart that shows what officers are available to get on each day of the week at different times during the day. it would be updated every month, as depending on the month, people's schedules can change. for example: my portion of the schedule during fall/winter/spring months would show that i'm not available during school hours, then my schedule during summer months would show that i'm available most days. officers would state what days of the week they're available, and what days they cannot get online whatsoever. this information can then be organized into a chart, and roles can be distributed so if an officer needs backup, they can ping the corresponding group of officers.
What do you think the DoJ needs to improve?
in my opinion, the doj needs to improve the department relationships and introduce morale boosting events. in other departments (such as the doa) there have been small events and parties that involve all members, and introduce a friendlier environment. these events can bring members closer together, that can let members work together more easily and be willing to work more closely with each other.
How much time can you dedicate to the DoJ?
during the rest of the summer, the only thing i have going on is a few shifts a week at work, i can essentially get on for a couple hours every day, whether in the morning or at night depends on my shifts. during the rest of the year it gets a bit more complicated with school and other commitments, but i would definitely be able to get on a few times a week. on bc, i have other jobs such as event planner and doctor, but i can manage my time to include all of these departments.
What do you think this role entails?
i believe this role entails taking on responsibility of keeping the department members in line and content in their positions, dealing with members who need punishments, introducing new ideas to update and improve the department, and implementing these ideas in organized and efficient ways.
